The Gadu-Gadu WordPress Widget Plug-in (0.5 alpha):
I was searching for a plug-in that provided my Gadu-Gadu IM status.
Gadu-Gadu (Polish for “chit-chat”) is a Polish IM client.
There’s tons of great IM plugins and widgets out there, but I couldn’t find any that handled Gadu-Gadu. There was one plug-in out there at one time, GGOnline, but I found that the site run by someone named Pawlik at http://pawlik.fanfatal.pl/ as noted in the WordPress Plugins Database was gone. I couldn’t locate the plug-in anywhere else.
I did a little searching and found the php calls needed to obtain a person’s Gadu-Gadu status. The best example was at the Mirage Project.
I built a widget out of those calls, allowing a person to input their Gadu-Gadu user ID (‘konta’). There’s a couple of cool graphics, also from the Mirage Project, and I added a line that allows people to add you as a contact (kontakt).
The script is UTF-8 compliant for handling Polish diacritics.
I have updated the release to an alpha 0.5 version. The revisions corrected issues with a few calls I messed up. It works for me ‘as expected’ but there are no guarantees…
It is being released as-is. If it breaks your stuff, delete the plug-in and move on.
To install:
- Download
- Unpack
- FTP the gadu-gadu directory to your WordPress plug-ins directory
- Activate the plug-in
- Drag the Gadu widget to the preferred locale on your sidebar (your theme must have widget support and Automattic’s Widgets must be installed.
- Set the parameter for your Gadu-Gadu ID. You can also adjust the widget title if you wish.
